Silicon-based qubits

A team from QuTech at Delft University created a silicon-based device capable of coherently transporting spin qubits among four isolated locations. It shuttles the qubits across a total of 1.2 micrometers, and it allows for tunable one- and two-qubit operations. The device supports X- and Z-type parity checks up to weight four.

The team was able to generate multi-qubit entanglement between all qubit combinations in the array and reported the genuine entanglement of a five-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state.

QPU from HRL

A team at HRL Laboratories, a research lab owned by General Motors and Boeing, demonstrated a CMOS-based quantum processing unit and interconnect device that both operate at cryogenic temperatures to reduce errors typically introduced by digital controls. The quantum chip features a 3-rail array of 54 exchange-coupled quantum dots, configurable to host up to 18 exchange-only qubits.

Chemical & Engineering News published a deep dive on last week’s trusted quantum computation announcements that included three groups showing what is considered likely to be quantum advantage on their calculations. In it, Qedma’s CEO Netanel Lindner called the work “proof of principle for an additional scientific instrument.”
