IBM planned spending
IBM said it will spend $10 billion on quantum over the next five years, including R&D, manufacturing and capital expenditures, and the acquisition of existing quantum companies. The spending will include $1 billion for Anderon, the quantum wafer foundry in which the Department of Commerce intends to invest an additional $1 billion.

Toric code
Atom Computing demonstrated error correction using a toric code — a method considered particularly resilient to local noise — on its neutral-atom quantum systems. The approach will be part of the Magne system being built in collaboration with Microsoft for QuNorth, a Nordic quantum initiative. QuNorth is funded by Denmark’s Export and Investment Fund and the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

Corporate projects
Boston Consulting Group released a study of more than 200 large companies with an eye toward quantum adoption timelines. The firm identified more than 150 proof-of-concept projects underway at the likes of BMW, HSBC, AstraZeneca, and Airbus. It claimed that 40 percent of spending by the companies currently goes to algorithm and software development, while warning of a “structural disconnect” in which “many enterprises are stuck in the early stage of exploration and learning, without the ability to align quantum investments and capabilities to core business challenges and create lasting value.”
